An architect given to non-utilitarian creation

At 14 years of age, Gabriel Pecchio, a professional of the Civil Department in the Caracas office, made a copy of a piece by renowned artist Cruz Diez as part of a school project; his passion for Syncretism was already evident at that early age. Little could he imagine that a decade later he would find himself in the Master’s workshop in Paris –and later in Caracas– helping him to prepare several works of art and exhibitions

An encounter with the history of oil in Venezuela

At the facilities of Ciudad Banesco in Caracas, outstanding personalities from the worlds of oil, politics and the press came together to view the documentary “Reventón” (Blowout), by Venezuelan cinema director Carlos Oteyza, sponsored by Otepi, Chevron, Total and Banesco.

Aside from enjoying this excellent documentary that tells of the first 65 years of the history of oil production, guests were attentive to the words of Juan Carlos Escotet, President of Banesco, Carlos Oteyza, director and producer of the excellent documentary, and Luis Eduardo Paúl Bello, President of the Board of Directors of Otepi; these personalities commented on the love-hate relationship that seems to be a constant between the average Venezuelan citizen and oil; and, on the importance of knowing History, in any of its facets, so as to be better prepared to face the future.

Our softball team, championship runner-up

Only eight months after having been assembled, the softball team made up of Otepi employees and their family members has surprised one and all by achieving  the runner-up position in last January’s First Inter-Consultants Jantesa Cup Tournament, played on the fields of the Caracas, Venezuela, Pedagogic Institute.

Dotty Mendoza, Workers’ Benefits Manager and team administrator explained, “I feel very proud because ‘my boys’ are not only starting to collect victories, but more than trophies they have achieved integration, a sense of belonging and important lessons on the importance of teamwork.”

Congratulations on their effort and perseverance!

The anchoring of underdevelopment and the basic principles of leadership

Two conferences given by Carolina Jaimes-Branger in our Caracas site were thought-provoking on subjects that delve into the analysis of the causes of underdevelopment and the nature of leadership.

“The Anchoring of Underdevelopment”, Published by the Andrés Mata Foundation, was presented by its author. The idiosyncrasy of the Venezuelan was described in 20 chapters, such as “determinism”, “sponge-ism”, “out-of-order-ism”, and “poor-thing-ism”, all characteristics of our culture and which anchor us to underdevelopment.

Laughter, reflection and hope were the response given to the words of this Systems Engineer with a Harvard Masters Degree in Education, on the Otepi-Caracas employees who enjoyed life lessons, applicable not only to the workplace but to everyday life, as well.
